In these elections, any citizen of the Russian Federation who has undergone identification by the electoral commission can participate as a voter. The history of Russia is full of tragic episodes in terms of relations with its neighbours. Belarus, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Finland, the Czech Republic, and Estonia have repeatedly faced Russia's imperial policies. Putin’s regime has continued this "tradition".
