THE CONGRESS OF PEOPLE'S DEPUTIES

Statement of the Executive Council of the Congress of People’s Deputies in connection with Putin’s statements rehabilitating Hitlerism and Stalinism

In an interview with Tucker Carlson on February 9, 2024, Vladimir Putin made statements that qualify as rehabilitation of the ideology and practice of Stalinism and Hitlerism

In particular, he said:

"...since [Poland] did not give up the Danzig corridor, still the Poles forced, they overplayed their hand and forced Hitler to start World War II with them. Why did Poland start the war on September 1, 1939? Poland was uncooperative. Hitler had no choice in realizing his plans to start with Poland ...

...under the famous Molotov-Ribbentrop protocols, some of these territories went to Russia, including Western Ukraine. Russia, under the name of the Soviet Union, thus returned to its historical territories. After the victory in the Great Patriotic War, as we say, this is the Second World War, all these territories were finally assigned to Russia, to the Soviet Union."

It was the first time Putin uttered these words while addressing the Western public directly.

Justifying his actions against Ukraine, Putin once again actually confirmed his territorial claims to Ukraine and his unwillingness to consider it an independent state. Thus, the ruler who has been shaping Russia's political structure for more than 20 years has independently and accurately determined his place in history. The mask of Putin's regime as inherently fascist has been finally dropped.

The Executive Council of the Congress of People's Deputies appeals to the international community to be vigilant.

We cannot allow a repetition of the mistakes that led to the outbreak of the Second World War as a result of the collusion of the two aggressors, Hitler and Stalin.

We are outraged by the shameless mockery of the historical memory of the peoples involved in the bloody tragedy of the Second World War, which claimed tens of millions of lives.

We express our deep sympathy to the people of Poland, who on September 1, 1939, took the first blow of the barefaced aggressors.

The Congress of People's Deputies, as an integral part of the Russian resistance movement, confirms its solidarity with all countries and peoples of the anti-Putin coalition and its readiness to fight to the end, to the destruction of the criminal Putin regime in Russia.
