THE CONGRESS OF PEOPLE'S DEPUTIES

Ilya Ponomarev elected Chairman of the Congress of People’s Deputies

On March 23, 2024, during the work of the 5th plenary session of the Congress of People's Deputies, based on the changes made to the regulations of the Congress, Ilya Ponomarev, a member of the Executive Board of the Congress, was elected to the position of Chairman of the Congress

As Alexander Osovtsov, a member of the Executive Council of the Congress, noted in his speech during the discussion of the amendments to the regulations and consideration of candidates for the position of Chairman, these changes fix the actual situation and are aimed at eliminating ambiguities and uncertainties in the functioning of the Congress. In addition, the need for such a position, in his opinion, is related to the recently increased public activity of the Congress and the need to represent the Congress on various international platforms.

During the nomination of personalities for the position of Chairman, in addition to Ilya Ponomarev, Andrei Illarionov, a member of the Executive Board of the Congress, was also proposed.

During the secret ballot, a total of 5 votes were cast in favor of Andrei Illarionov's candidacy, and 26 votes were cast in favor of Ilya Ponomarev's candidacy. One ballot was invalid and one delegate voted "against all".

Thus, by a majority of votes, the Congress elected Ilya Ponomarev to the position of Chairman of the Congress of People's Deputies.
